How I work
The practical details of working together, from your first enquiry to follow-up sessions.

Referrals
Referrals are welcome from individuals, families, case managers, solicitors, GPs and other professionals. You do not need a GP referral, and self-referrals are accepted for both therapy and assessment.
For case-managed or medico-legal referrals, I welcome enquiries for psychological therapy, psychological formulation, cognitive and neuropsychological assessment, mental capacity assessment, and joint or team-based assessments (for example autism or MDT capacity assessments). Support can be arranged privately or as part of a wider MDT programme.
Referrals can be made by email. Please include a brief summary of the reason for referral, the service requested, and any relevant background information or reports. If you are unsure what type of support is needed, get in touch for an informal conversation and I am happy to advise. You can email me at jade@mindatherapy.co.uk.
Your First Session
Your first session is the initial assessment that begins your psychological therapy. It is a chance for us to get to know each other. I usually allow a longer session, 90 minutes, so there is time to gather information and for you to ask any questions.
We will talk about the difficulties you are experiencing and what you would like to achieve with psychological support. We will cover any diagnoses and treatments, your wellbeing, support network, strengths and any risks. I may also ask about your personal and family history, current circumstances, previous support, medical history and physical health, and your goals for therapy. At the end of the assessment we agree a plan for moving forward together.
I may ask you to complete some questionnaires. Some can indicate whether you have a specific difficulty and how significant it is, while others help us track progress over time.
Sometimes a formulation and recommendations can be discussed during the session. If your situation is more complex, it can help to take time to reflect first, and I will send a summary or recommendation by email shortly afterwards.
Follow-Up Sessions
If we agree to keep working together, the first few sessions act as an extended assessment, building a shared understanding (a formulation) of your past experiences, your current situation, and how your difficulties developed and are maintained. For some people that understanding is helpful enough on its own, while others go on to sessions focused on creating change in line with their goals.
You will usually be given an estimated number of sessions, followed by a review or check-in to agree how to move forward.
Follow-up sessions are 50 minutes, and we agree the frequency together. A written therapy agreement covers practical and therapeutic terms, including cancellations and missed sessions. You are always welcome to ask questions before we begin ongoing work.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
It is a very common question, and the honest answer is that it depends. It varies with what brings you to therapy, what you would like support with, and what feels manageable right now. Some people find a few sessions are enough to gain clarity or direction. Others benefit from longer term support, especially if difficulties have built up over time or feel more complex.
There is no set number and you are not locked into anything. We decide together, at a pace that feels right, and I check in regularly about how things are going.
Where Will Therapy Take Place?
Sessions are available online, or in person at therapy rooms in three London locations. Community or home visits can be arranged on an individual basis, so please get in touch to discuss.

Fees
Fees depend on the type of work, whether that is therapy, assessment or reports, and are shared when you get in touch. Please enquire and I will send the details. There is no obligation.
For Case Managers
I welcome referrals from case managers looking for experienced, flexible and collaborative psychological input for clients with complex health, neurological or psychological needs. With a strong background in neuro-rehabilitation and integrative psychological therapy, my input is goal-oriented, evidence-based and tailored to each client’s context. I understand the importance of clear communication, timely updates and adaptable care planning to support rehabilitation and legal processes.
In exceptional circumstances, home visits may be offered for clients who are unable to travel, subject to availability and additional travel and mileage costs. Online sessions are also available where clinically appropriate.
I am happy to provide costings and admin time, arrange a call to discuss a case, and share my CV, terms and conditions and fee structure for your records. Please get in touch or email jade@mindatherapy.co.uk.
